it's been a long winter

she makes me whole

When I'm Ill, sick and sad or just plain scared,
with just a look or touch she makes me whole.
There are times when I don't like my body,
it seems a heavy anchor for my soul.

I can't run fast or lift great loads of weight.
Sun sears my skin, salt water makes me sneeze.
Allergies give me sniffles, coughs, and pain.
It seems I catch a cold with every breeze.
My blood is laden, thick with lipid grease.

But I am blessed that my life is shared,
for she takes my hand and she holds me near.
If at night our sighs are often bawdy,
even then our laughter is made more clear.

She loves me, not muscles or speedy gait.
At the beach she brings shade and lets me read.
She allays all my fears and keeps me sane.
In all things she is kind in word and deed.
She holds my heart in hers and brings me peace.

There are times and days when my need is bared,
and she takes up my love and mends my soul.
